The Splash Pub

Restaurant | Louth | England | United Kingdom

The Splash Pub, officially known as the Royal Oak Inn, is a traditional country pub in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, just two miles from the Georgian market town of Louth. The 17th-century building retains its historic charm and offers a cozy atmosphere with low ceiling beams and rustic ambiance.

The pub's menu includes a variety of British favorite dishes, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Particularly popular are the traditional Fish and Chips, known for their crispy batter and tender fish. The Sunday Roast is also highly regarded by guests, with juicy meat, fresh sides, and homemade gravy at the heart of the meal. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available to cater to different dietary needs.

The pub offers an extensive selection of drinks, including local ales such as Black Sheep Best Bitter, Greene King Abbot, and Timothy Taylor Landlord. A rotating guest beer from local breweries complements the selection. The wine list and soft drinks round out the beverage offerings.

For overnight guests, the pub offers traditionally furnished rooms with en-suite bathrooms, TV, and tea/coffee making facilities. The peaceful location and proximity to attractions like the Kenwick Park Golf Club make it an ideal base for exploring the area.

Overall, The Splash Pub offers a successful combination of traditional British cuisine, excellent service, and welcoming atmosphere, making it a recommended destination for locals and visitors alike.

Highly recommend The Splash Pub. Food, drinks, and service were excellent! Loads of delicious Vegetarian and Vegan options too--my favorite being the Mushroom Stroganoff!

WILL NEVER RETURN - DISGUSTING. We have been here before ( including staying overnight once ) and it was ok, but we can only assume that it has changed hands as it is now absolutely appalling. Nothing welcoming about the initial reception. We were then publicly branded as thieves when we tried to order. Everything must be paid for in advance before "service" but given the standard of that "service" I am not surprised, as one wouldn't want to pay afterwards, so I can only assume that people have been refusing to pay after the so-called "service". I parked the newest, and easily the most expensive car in their car park right outside their main window, I was wearing a suit and full wool overcoat and my wife a full dress and long coat ( we had been to a cremation) but was judged by the grumpy woman behind the bar to be a thieving con-man. It really upset us as an awful way to be treated on an already sad day. Having been forced to pay for all items separately up front ( not what used to happen with the old owners when it was properly run ) we then had to wait for a very long time for our meals. When they did eventually arrive ( both of our meals separately, one getting cold while we waited for the other ) they were both wrong. I asked for my 'seasonal vegetables' to be well cooked as "I do not like al Dante vegetables", but they were raw. I also asked for my wife's steak to be "Well done" and it turned up a significant time before my meal, cooked rare ( see photo ). I ate a little of her steak, but most of it was wasted. Basically, she was given cheap ciabatta and chips for the cost of a steak meal. When I was well into my meal, someone appeared saying "I have been asked to bring you some well-cooked vegetables ( I can only assume that someone else had noticed that I had pushed all of my raw vegetables to the side of my plate ) and then someone that I guess was a local approached and offered to get me some gravy. That did arrive a short while later but only after I was already more than half-way through my meal. Sometime AFTER we had finished, a young woman came to clear the table and had the cheek to ask " Was everything ok for you" but when we both said "No" she just shrugged, said nothing and took the plates. A COMPLETE RIP-OFF WITH APPALLING ( LACK OF ) SERVICE AND TREATING CUSTOMERS WITH SUSPICION AND CALLING THEM THIEVES - NEVER AGAIN - DISGUSTING

Had a lovely meal with family just after Christmas. As local Lincs people the Splash is an old haunt for us (my elderly mum did some of her courting here back in the day). As ever, the food was amazing. Beautiful steak and stilton pie with proper pastry, creamy mash and perfectly cooked veggies. The grilled haddock was both big and just cooked right.... Fresh, flaky and tasty. We had just enough room for their tasty desserts. Can recommend the sticky ginger toffee pudding. We just wish the staff could be more warm, welcoming and friendly. A smile, a welcome, some conversation with customers would really make this the perfect evening out. The food is so good that the lack of service isn't enough to stop us coming. But I would love to be able to give you five stars. Come on the management... A couple of team meetings, some training and checking would raise the warmth and quality of service to a standard that matches the food and environment.

What a beautiful location for a pub. They really put an effort in with the decor and there is usually a few cosy fires going inside during the colder months. Great place to stop for food after a picturesque walk.

As parents of 2 young (5+3yo) boys who have bags of energy, it was ace to have lunch here the other day. We sat in an outside booth in the lovely enclosed (safe) garden, the boys played in the little, well maintained play area whilst waiting for lunch. Good kids menu, usual suspect nuggets but they also had lasagne which my boys loved and demolished! Both adult and kids portion sizes were plentiful, we had a chicken kebab, and fish and chips. The fish was lovely and meaty, and the chips were homemade and cooked to perfection. It's just on the outskirts of Louth, you drive through a little Ford to get there, hence the local nick name 'The Spash', formally known as the Royal Oak. I'd highly recommend, we will return for sure!

Excellent location down a narrow lane and across a ford. Secluded and lovely Ample parking. There is a comfortable separate quiet dining area and a larger area as well I cannot fault this place. Food excellent, home cooked, service excellent, staff friendly and well presented. I wish it was nearer to my home. Give it a go you won't be disappointed

A beautiful building with wonderful food. I had the steak and ale pie and it was packed with meat which was really tender. The pub garden is lovely too. There are plenty of tables outside and a play area for the kids. Really lovely location with plenty of parking

We have enjoyed a great meal today, Sunday. The food was great! A huge plate of roast dinner which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Staff were helpful and service was quick and polite. We enjoyed the choice of a 2 or 3 course roast dinner and had plenty to eat. The dining area is very attractive and the atmosphere warm and contented.

A meal was booked for our 50th wedding anniversary, saturday 27th april, and it was a lovely meal, tasty, piping hot, we all had something different, and each person enjoyed their food, the staff were, as always, efficient polite and friendly, we visit a few times during the year, never disappointed, thankyou to staff and management, and the chef, for ending the day with a delicious meal.

Lovely food (I had sausages and mash), good portion size and very tasty. Friendly service and a lovely pub!🙂 Just watch out for the ford if it's been raining &/or you have a low car! (The Satnav hasn't sent you into a river!😂). You can drive in a different way by the church if need be.

We went for Sunday Lunch very disappointing frozen roast potatoes, frozen Yorkshire pudding plus i personally think it was frozen mashed potatoes. The vegetables weren't the best either and it wasn't very hot. The best part was the beef.
